In Anambra State, a group of people known as “Yahoo Boys” (internet fraudsters) attacked officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday. Sadly, one officer lost his life, and another was seriously hurt.
The EFCC officers were on a mission from their office in Enugu to catch the fraudsters. However, the fraudsters used guns to attack them, forcing the officers to run for safety.
The officer who died was a young assistant superintendent who had recently passed an important exam to get a promotion. The injured officer is receiving treatment at a hospital, but his condition remains serious.
The police in Anambra State have arrested one suspect and recovered a weapon used in the attack. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, a police spokesperson, said they are still investigating the matter and will provide more information soon.
This tragic event highlights the risks faced by officers working to stop crimes like internet fraud.
