Former Minister of Labour and Employment and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Dr Chris Ngige, has been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday night through a statement issued by Ngige’s former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe, who clarified that the politician was not kidnapped, contrary to reports circulating online.
Chukwulobe stated, “Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”
Ngige has dominated public attention in recent days following an attack on his convoy in Anambra State. Although his security vehicles were ambushed by armed men, the former minister was not in any of the cars at the time of the incident.
As of the time of this report, the EFCC has not released details regarding the reason for his arrest, and no official charges have been made public.
