DSPG 3rd Combined Convocation: Oborevwori Lauds Rector For Prudent Use Of IGR For Capital Projects, Pledges Government Improvement In Existing Infrastructure

Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Rector, Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi uku, Bldr Professor Emmanuel Achuenu, the Governing Council and management staff of the institution, for the judicious use of its internally generated revenue (IGR) in executing and completing landmark projects in the school

The Governor said, this prudent allocation of the institution’s IGR in project execution as well as other technological innovations of the Professor Achuenu-led DSPG, were worthy of emulation by other institutions of higher learning in the state and beyond

Speaking at the 3rd combined convocation ceremony of the school recently, Governor Oborevwori, represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, commended the giant strides the polytechnic had recorded since Professor Achuenu and the Chief Joe Arausi led Governing Council had recorded since they assumed office.

He also commended the management of the institution for the prevailing peace , industrial harmony, sports development strides , culminating in DSPG hosting the 2024 edition of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games Association (NIPOGA) games.

The Governor promised to do something in the areas of infrastructure such as internal roads, construction of more lecture halls and laboratories in addition to completion of the perimeter fencing of the school, within the limits of available resources.

For the graduating students, Governor Oborevwori said, while congratulating them: “You are reaping the fruits of your hard work, dedication, and desire to succeed. You must not rest on your oars but put into practice what you have learned here. Continually hone your skills to remain relevant in this technological age and go out there to create jobs for yourselves.

Earlier in his address, the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi uku ( DSPG), Bldr Professor Emmanuel Achuenu while congratulating the convocating students, said graduation is the climax of the efforts made by them since they gained admission, and was an affirmation that they had fulfilled all requirements, having been found worthy in character and learning.

Prof Achuenu used the opportunity of the convocation ceremony to highlight achievements recorded since he assumed duties as Rector in 2021 in the areas of peace and security, infrastructural development, industrial harmony, lCT, sports breakthroughs, and mutual understanding with the host community among others.

The DSPG Rector commended the Governor for his support for the Polytechnic since he assumed office on May 29 this year, assuring him that the school is breaking technological grounds and innovations in solar power and laboratory-related disciplines.

Professor Achuenu who is the current President of NIPOGA, used the opportunity to solicit the support of the state government towards the successful hosting of the 2024 edition of the games whose hosting rights have been granted to the school in recognition of the sterling performances recorded by it’s athletes during the association’s games in Nigeria and even the West Africa sub-region.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the DSPG Governing Council, Chief Joe Arausi, thanked Governor Oborevwori’s administration for allowing the Governing Council and management of the institution to function without interference, in line with the extant laws setting up the school.

Chief Arausi said DSPG is on the threshold of industrial growth, and moral rectitude and used the opportunity of the convocation to appeal to all stakeholders and persons/corporate organizations of goodwill, to support the school for it to meet its objectives.

The highpoints of the 3rd combined convocation ceremony were the presentation of the OND and HND certificates to the graduands of the 2020/2021, 2021/2022 academic sessions drawn from the schools of Business Studies, General Studies, ICT, Applied Sciences, Engineering Technology, Arts and Industrial Design, as well as Environmental Studies.

The State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, was also investitured as the Grand Patron of NIPOGA, while the deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme bagged the DSPG fellowship award of excellence for his philanthropic support to the education of indigent but brilliant students of Ndokwa extraction in higher institutions of learning across the country.
