The Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) has resumed work after the Christmas and New Year holidays, with its Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor promises to make new laws that will help improve the lives of the people of Delta State.
A Strong Start to 2025
In his speech, Speaker Guwor reminded everyone how the Assembly ended 2024 on a high note. He shared that they passed important bills like the 2025 Budget, which was quickly approved by the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. This budget will focus on building better roads, schools, and hospitals while supporting the welfare and security of the people.
Some other bills passed last year include:
- A law to improve Delta State University of Science and Technology in Ozoro.
- A law to help protect people with disabilities.
- Laws to fight human trafficking and improve the court system.
Teamwork for a Better Delta
Speaker Guwor said the Assembly will work closely with the Governor and other government departments to ensure money is spent wisely and benefits everyone. He also asked lawmakers to speed up work on bills still in progress, reminding them that their efforts are important for Delta State’s growth.
Honoring Lost Lives in Agbor Fire
The Speaker also expressed sadness over the recent tanker explosion in Agbor, which caused loss of lives and property. He asked the Assembly to observe a minute of silence for those who died and prayed for their families to find strength during this difficult time.
A Call for Unity
In his final message, Speaker Guwor encouraged his fellow lawmakers to remain united and work together to make Delta State a better place for everyone. He thanked the Assembly staff, media, and his colleagues for their hard work and dedication.
As the Delta Assembly begins its legislative activities for 2025, it promises to focus on peace, development, and the welfare of its people.
