Delta State Marks Two Years of Progress with Hopeful Outlook

“We’re Just Getting Started”: Oborevwori Promises More Progress for Delta State

At a colorful and spirit-filled event held in Asaba on Thursday, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori told Deltans something simple but powerful: “We’ve come a long way, but we’re just getting started.”

Speaking during the 2025 Delta State Thanksgiving and Praise Day, the governor marked the midpoint of his administration by assuring citizens that the next two years would be full of more growth, unity, and leadership that brings real change to their everyday lives.

What Did the Governor Say?

In front of a packed crowd at the Events Centre in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori shared his thoughts about how far the state has come since he took office—and where it’s headed next.

“We’ve focused on building on past successes, breaking new ground, and finding new ways to move Delta State forward,” he said.

“As a top contributor to Nigeria’s economy, we deserve more from the Federal Government—and I believe we’ll get it.”

He added that the state’s strategic alliance with the Federal Government will soon start bringing in bigger benefits for everyone, especially as Delta continues to play a big role in Nigeria’s economy.

Thanksgiving with a Purpose

This wasn’t just a government report—it was a celebration. Governor Oborevwori, joined by other top officials, gathered to thank God and the people of Delta State for their support over the last two years.

“Thanksgiving is more than just gratitude,” he explained. “It’s also a way to ask for more blessings.”

During the event, he urged Deltans to keep praying for peace, unity, and continued progress under the MORE Agenda—his administration’s plan to:

  • Meaningfully Develop Delta
  • Opportunity for All
  • Realistic Reforms
  • Enhanced Peace and Security

What’s Been Achieved So Far?

Oborevwori pointed to several projects and achievements:

  • He presented a midterm report to the Delta State House of Assembly the day before, showing progress across roads, health, education, and job creation.
  • He also mentioned the completion of the Ughelli-Asaba Highway, a major infrastructure win that has made movement easier across the state.

The Church and the People Speak

The Thanksgiving event wasn’t just political—it had a strong spiritual and community flavor. Archbishop Cyril Odutemu, who delivered the sermon, praised Oborevwori as “a child of destiny” and noted that even critics had been impressed by his progress.

Quoting the Bible from Ephesians 4:3, he called for Deltans to stay united in peace and encouraged the Governor to keep working closely with key leaders and stakeholders across the state.

Leaders from All Sides in Attendance

In a rare show of unity, the event was attended by top figures across party lines and sectors:

  • Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori (Governor’s wife)
  • Sir Monday Onyeme (Deputy Governor) and his wife
  • Former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and wife
  • Senators Ned Nwoko, Ede Dafinone, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas
  • Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo
  • Speaker of the State House, Emomotimi Guwor
  • Members of the House of Representatives
  • APC Chairman in Delta State, Elder Omeni Sobotie

Their presence showed that despite political differences, Delta leaders are united when it comes to progress and peace.

Final Words from the Governor

“We will do more. We will listen more. And we’ll build the Delta State we all dream of—together.”
