In line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on the need to sustain the tempo against crime and criminality, the Delta State Police Command on Tuesday paraded some suspects and showcased their ammunition.
Among those paraded, is a suspect named Innocent Eziokwu who was alleged to have defiled a four-year-old child during school hours. The suspect was accidentally the owner of the school and also the only male teacher in the school where this little girl is a student.
It was gathered that investigators while doing an identification parade, the suspect was placed alongside another male suspect, and the child who was 4 years old was able to repeatedly identify the said suspect that defiled her on the school premises.
Also, on October 21, 2023, while acting on credible intelligence that some suspected cultists named Emmanuel Egbongbon Bons, age 36, and Obus Obukoko, age 32, all of the Juris confraternity were arrested by the DPO of Ekpan police station.
On October 22, they led operatives to the hideout of one of the gang members, Moses Omoko, a male who is a resident of the Sedeco area in Enerhen. Upon arresting the suspect and searching his premises, one AK-47 raffle, two magazines loaded with 41 rounds of 7.6mm ammunition, one locally made double barrel gun, and two live cartridges were recovered. The suspects are currently in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
In Sapele, an incident occurred on October 23, 2023, where the DPO Sapele division received a distress call on a kidnapping incident that happened on the Ibadon-Elume expressway.
The DPO led operatives of the division alongside some operatives of the tactical team and some vigilantes of the community who went into the bush for over 6 hours, and at about 16:10 hours that same day, the kidnappers who sighted the operatives took to their heels and abandoned the kidnapped victims.
Two of the kidnapped victims have been rescued and reunited with their families, while the manhunt for the main suspects is ongoing.
Another ugly incident happened in Agbor on October 18, 2023, wherein a parent who was out of anger that his child was manhandled by a teacher in school, intended to flog the teacher but unluckily, the teacher while trying to restore normalcy slumped and died in the school premises.
The suspect, Emmanuel Nwike who is the father of the child that was flogged was arrested and taken into custody.
The Commissioner of Police Delta State, CP Wale Abass reassured Deltans of the commitment of the command to eradicate crime and bring it to the minimum in the state.
The CP while assuring residents that the command will continue to enhance and improve its efforts to protect and fish out criminals in the state, added that the ember month operations have been intensified adding that additional takedown of unrepentant criminals should be expected.
He cautions residents particularly the youths who have formed the habit of taking laws into their own hands in the name of jungle justice to desist from such acts.
He said self-help is not the way forward while citing a situation of an alleged male organ disappearance in Cable Point, Asaba where a victim was beaten to a stupor by a mop who alleged that the victim after shaking hands with them, they discovered that their genital was going inside.
According to the CP, when the victim was rescued and the suspects were arrested it was discovered that their genitals were intact, though the investigation is still ongoing, he said.
The CP likewise urged residents to refrain from raising false alarms over genital disappearance and advised them to always be law-abiding by reporting any cases of such instead of taking laws into their hands.
