Delta Marks 33 Years of State Creation and Progress with Thanksgiving Service

Asaba, 27th August 2024 – Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has commended the steady growth of the state across all economic development indicators, positioning Delta as a powerhouse among Nigerian states. The Governor made this statement during his remarks at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, in celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the state’s creation.

Reflecting on the state’s journey over the past three decades, Governor Oborevwori described it as eventful and fulfilling, marked by both challenges and successes. “I am proud to say that in 33 years of existence, Delta State has evolved into a strong, vibrant, strategic component of the Nigerian federation,” he said. He further noted that the state holds a prominent place within Nigeria, with its citizens recognized both locally and internationally for their entrepreneurial spirit, passion, and ingenuity.

The Governor urged Deltans to remain united in prayer, seeking divine guidance and protection for the state. “Let us continue to unite in prayer seeking God’s blessings and protection for our state,” he stated, emphasizing that their trust should remain in God alone.

As the state reflects on its achievements and looks to the future, Governor Oborevwori assured residents that the best is yet to come. He also expressed his gratitude to Deltans for their peaceful and mature conduct during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, calling for continued support and solidarity to help fulfill the promises of his administration’s MORE Agenda.

On the issue of security, the Governor pledged to prioritize the safety and security of Delta State, recognizing that sustained peace is essential for development. “We are collaborating with security agencies in tackling issues such as kidnapping, cultism, and other crimes to ensure that the safety and security of all residents in Delta State is guaranteed,” he stated. He acknowledged the challenges faced by the state but reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with security agencies to maintain peace.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the state’s progress in infrastructural development, healthcare, education, and social investment programs over the past 15 months, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to keeping Delta State ahead on all indices of social and economic development.

He also paid tribute to former governors, their deputies, past and present political office holders, civil servants, royal fathers, community leaders, and all Deltans, both at home and abroad, whose selfless contributions have advanced the state’s peace and progress.

The thanksgiving service featured a sermon by Pastor Shiyanbade Adekunle, the State Mission Overseer of Living Faith Church, who emphasized the importance of collective thanksgiving. He encouraged Deltans to continuously express gratitude to God for the blessings in their lives and for the progress of the state.

The service also included a reading from Psalm 136 by the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, and prayers for the continued peace and prosperity of Delta State.
