The Delta State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, provided insights into his ministry’s 2025 budget after defending it before the committee overseeing the Interministerial budget. The session was part of an event organized by the Ministry of Economic Planning in Asaba, the state capital.
Speaking after the budget defense, Hon. Angele expressed satisfaction with the session, highlighting the ministry’s preparedness. “I think we enjoyed the session because we’ve been preparing before now, and we know what we are supposed to do as a ministry. By God’s grace, we talked more about the ‘Pilot Scheme’ and the PPP. The ‘Pilot Scheme’ is all about low-cost housing around the 25 local governments in line with our MORE Agenda. That is an opportunity for all, and this has been tied to the budget. By the grace of God, we see a lot for next year from this budget we are trying to defend. By the special grace of God, we are good to go,” Angele stated.
Further elaborating on the budget’s objectives, the Commissioner emphasized that the ministry’s focus is on providing affordable housing options, including two-bedroom, one-bedroom, and three-bedroom apartments. “Definitely it is a low budget and affordable houses for two bedroom, one bedroom, and three bedrooms and largely some for civil servants and Deltans. Because we will not allow all these bigger boys to come and hijack the state in line with what we are seeing in the state. A two-bedroom flat is above N1 million now, and I think by the time we finish, you will know that our governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is working,” he said.
The proposed ‘Pilot Scheme’ aims to address housing affordability across Delta State’s 25 local government areas, aligning with the state administration’s MORE Agenda. The initiative intends to create opportunities for a broader demographic, particularly civil servants and other residents who struggle with the high cost of housing. The Commissioner’s reference to the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model indicates potential collaboration with private investors to achieve the ministry’s housing goals.
Assessing the ministry’s performance over the past year, Hon. Angele noted, “So far, so good, we have achieved over 45 performances for this year, and we still have 2 months and 2 years left.” This statement reflects the ongoing efforts to meet the state’s housing needs and the continuous work planned for the future.
The budget defense, organized as part of the Ministry of Economic Planning’s initiative, provides a glimpse into the state government’s commitment to improving the standard of living for its citizens through affordable housing projects. The ministry’s plan is expected to bring relief to many Deltans who currently face high rental costs.
