Delta Govt Redeploys Sapele Technical College Principal Over Administrative Lapses

The Delta State Government has redeployed the Principal of Sapele Technical College, Sapele, Mrs. Rosemary Itawansa (17 PEG), following allegations of serious administrative and disciplinary failures uncovered during an official monitoring exercise.

The action was taken by the Delta State Ministry of Technical Education after inspectors identified multiple violations of academic and administrative standards at the institution during a routine second-term resumption visit.

According to a circular issued to the Permanent Secretary, Directors, and Principals of state-owned technical colleges, the inspection was conducted on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at about 7:26 a.m. Officials reportedly found the school gate unmanned, with no security personnel on duty.

The inspection also revealed a poorly maintained environment, unauthorized activities such as farming and wood milling within the school premises, and allegations of excessive fees being collected from students. Inspectors further cited non-compliance with approved teaching guidelines for trade courses and weak administrative supervision.

The Ministry also accused the school management of aiding and abetting “ghosting” by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the college.

It was further disclosed that Mrs. Itawansa had received repeated verbal warnings over her conduct but failed to take corrective action. The Ministry also recalled a previous redeployment directive dated January 19, 2024 (Ref. No. MTE/SQA/82/33), which reassigned her to Model Technical College, Obiaruku, but was reportedly ignored.

A subsequent query issued to the Principal was answered with claims of political engagements, an explanation the Ministry described as unacceptable.

In line with disciplinary procedures, the Ministry approved her immediate redeployment from Sapele Technical College to the Ministry of Technical Education, Asaba, pending further posting. She has been directed to hand over to the most senior teacher and report to the Ministry on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The Ministry warned that it would not tolerate insubordination, negligence, or administrative misconduct, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism across all technical colleges in Delta State.
