Delta Govt Begins Community Engagement on Cable Point Urban Renewal Plan

The Delta State Government has begun consultations with residents of Cable Point in Asaba to gather their inputs for the development of the Cable Point Urban Renewal Plan. The engagement was held on Tuesday during the Delta State Urban Forum for Cable Point, Asaba, organised by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Renewal.

Speaking at the forum, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, Engr. Ifeanyi Anoka, said the initiative aligns with Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises inclusive development and improved urban infrastructure.

Anoka stated that the selection of Cable Point for renewal was informed by the Governor’s interest in transforming the area, noting that the neighbourhood has significant natural and economic potential.

“Cable Point is loaded with huge potential and natural blessings that can be harnessed to completely transform it,” Anoka said.

He emphasised that the ministry adopts a participatory approach to planning.

“We do not plan for the people; we plan with the people. Your suggestions will be prioritised and will guide the government in achieving inclusive development,” he added.

Residents were encouraged to identify the type of projects and services that would improve their living conditions. Suggestions received included: Drainage construction, Internal roads, Streetlights, Hospital/health facility, Boreholes and improved water supply, Shoreline protection, Increased police presence

The Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. (Mrs.) Charity Ehimen.

The forum was attended by key community and local government leaders, including: Chairman, Oshimili South LGA, Dr Kelvin Ezeyinli; Chairman, Delta State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Auwalu Tukur; Councillor, Ward 13, Hon. Jibrin Audu; Representative of the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Idivisi Kuta

Also present were representatives of various ethnic associations and community organisations such as Arewa, Igbo, Yoruba, Igala groups, Cable Community Development Association, Cable Dynamic Youth Organisation, Cable Flying Boat Union, Cable Market Union, Cable Rainbow Coalition, Oshimili South Marshals, The Jews Club, Asaba Community Youths, and others.

Anoka assured residents that their contributions would directly shape the final urban renewal plan, adding that the project aims to improve the physical, social, and economic outlook of Cable Point.
