Delta Government Approves Major Infrastructure Projects Alongside New Medical College

The Delta State Government has approved the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at Delta State University of Science and Technology (DSUST), located in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area. This approval was part of the key decisions made at the State Executive Council (Exco) meeting held on Thursday, presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba.

During a press briefing, the State Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, shared the details of the meeting alongside other top officials, including Commissioners for Works Reuben Izeze and Charles Aniagwu, Higher Education Commissioner Professor Nyerovwo Tonukari and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon.

Osuoza announced that the Exco also approved the payment of compensation for land acquired by the government for the establishment of the Orerokpe campus of DSUST.

In addition to the medical college approval, Osuoza outlined other major infrastructure projects approved by the Exco, including the construction of internal roads at the Headquarters of the 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area. Road projects approved included:

  • Aziken Avenue at DDPA Low-Cost Housing Estate, Boji-Boji, Agbor, in Ika South LGA.
  • Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road (Phase 1) and Eweshi-Utagba-Uno Road in Ndokwa West LGA.
  • Main access road to the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, and Sokoh Estate Road and Okito Street, both in Uwvie LGA.
  • Internal roads in Kiagbodo (Phase 1) and rehabilitation of the Odimodi/Okonto/Ogulaha Road in Burutu LGA.

The Commissioner further mentioned additional road projects, including:

  • Odoziobodo/Aninta Street, off Ezenei Avenue in Oshimili South LGA.
  • Ekakpamre/Ekrokpe/Usiefrun and Orhuwhorun Road, linking Ughelli South and Udu LGAs.
  • Bezi Road, off College Road in Aladja, Udu LGA.
  • Uduophori Secondary Commercial School Road in Patani LGA.
  • Ofuegbe Street in Amai, Ukwuani LGA.
  • Oloma/Eyewuoma internal roads at Koko Beach and Ogbogudu community road in Egbema, Warri North LGA.

Osuoza also stated that the Exco had approved counterpart funding for Delta State AUDA/NEPAD’s initiative to support smallholder farmers through land restoration amid COVID-19.

Furthermore, the Exco approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Prince Samuel Akpomieme Fuludu, as the Pere of Ngbelebri-Mein Kingdom in Burutu LGA, and His Royal Majesty, Simon Wajutome Odhomo I, as the new Odiologbo of Irri Kingdom in Isoko South LGA.

Speaking on behalf of the Works Ministry, Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) Mr Charles Aniagwu emphasized that the new projects reflected the government’s commitment to Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda for statewide development. He noted that 11 new road projects had been approved for his ministry.

Addressing concerns about the failed portions of the Benin-Asaba highway at Ezenei Junction in Asaba, Aniagwu reassured the public that the contractor, under the Federal Government, was working to fix the road, urging patience from road users as repairs were underway.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, said that ongoing road construction projects in the state align with Governor Oborevwori’s vision for meaningful development across Delta State, ensuring the execution of infrastructure projects in all three Senatorial Districts.
