Delta Crisis: Pirah Condemns Ogidigben Violence

Following the deadly violence that rocked Ogidigben Community in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr. Omamofe Joseph Pirah has condemned the incident, describing it as a setback to peace and development in the area.

The crisis, which reportedly led to the death of Mr. Onuwaje and the destruction of several houses, has drawn widespread concern within the Ugborodo confederated communities. Pirah, a prominent leader from Ogidigben, said the development was painful and avoidable, especially considering the long-standing efforts by community stakeholders to maintain harmony.

In a statement on the incident, Pirah expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and property, stressing that leadership ambitions within the community should never result in violence. He noted that every qualified member has the right to seek positions within the Community Management Committee or the Trust, provided such aspirations are guided by sincerity and a genuine desire for development.

He warned that allowing personal interests to escalate into conflict only deepens division and undermines collective progress. According to him, internal disputes weaken the community at a time when it must remain united to confront external challenges.

Pirah pointed out that Ogidigben and neighbouring communities continue to face unresolved issues in their engagement with International Oil Companies operating in the area, particularly in the areas of employment and infrastructure development. He said these challenges require unity and coordinated action rather than infighting.

Appealing for calm, Pirah reminded residents that they are bound by shared history and common interests. He cautioned that turning violence against one another would only erode the community’s strength and bargaining power.

He called on the Eghare-Aja, the Olaja-Orori and other leaders within Ugborodo to urgently convene and engage the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, to resolve the underlying issues that sparked the violence and to restore unity and inclusiveness.

Pirah also urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the crisis and ensure that those responsible are held accountable, insisting that justice must be served without bias to prevent a recurrence. He concluded by offering prayers for the family of the deceased and calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Ogidigben Community.
