Asaba, Delta State — November 12, 2025: The Delta State Commissioner of Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Etagherure Ejiro Terry, has presented his ministry’s proposed budget for the 2026 fiscal year before the Ministry of Economic Planning in Asaba.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the budget presentation, Hon. Terry described the exercise as successful, noting that the proposal was guided by clear principles and the state government’s development priorities.
“When you follow due process and work in line with established principles, everything runs smoothly,” he said. “We have a lot captured in this year’s budget, though I cannot disclose all the details yet. What I can assure Deltans is that the government plans to build more fire stations, especially in areas that currently don’t have any.”
Reflecting on the ministry’s 2025 performance, the Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the progress made, particularly in modernising and expanding the state’s fire service infrastructure.
“We achieved a lot this year. We were able to renovate and upgrade existing fire stations, build a new one in Abraka, and also another at Auto Repair with a standby generator and solar power system — making it a modern facility. I can proudly say our performance this year is above 70 per cent,” Terry stated.
On the issue of natural disasters and the effects of climate change, the Commissioner emphasised that while such events are often unpredictable, the ministry has made provisions in the 2026 budget to strengthen disaster prevention and response capacity.
“Climate-related disasters are not things you plan for, but when they occur, we must be ready to respond. Preventive measures have been factored into our plans, and we’ve set aside about ₦500 million to support interventions in that direction,” he explained.
Hon. Terry reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to improving emergency response systems, protecting lives and property, and ensuring Delta State is better prepared for future environmental and disaster-related challenges.
