Delta Builds Four New Model Technical Colleges, 10 Already Functioning — Ufoh

The Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Honourable Smart Ijeoma Ufoh, has presented his ministry’s 2026 budget estimates before the Ministry of Economic Planning in Asaba, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to skill development and youth empowerment through technical education.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the presentation, Hon. Ufoh said the 2026 budget was designed to complete ongoing projects, strengthen technical institutions, and enhance skill acquisition programmes across the state. He noted that the Ministry of Technical Education has continued to make steady progress in its mission to reposition technical learning in the Delta.

According to the commissioner, the ministry is currently constructing four new model technical colleges — located in Irri, Afogbene, Ikiagbodo, and Ogharaki — all of which have been approved by the state government. With these additions, Delta State now has a total of 14 technical colleges, ten of which are already fully operational.

Hon. Ufoh described the new model colleges as top-notch facilities built to modern standards and equipped with the infrastructure required to deliver quality technical education. He explained that the structures are at various stages of completion, reflecting the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for practical learning and innovation.

“We are working tirelessly to complete the remaining four model technical colleges and ensure that all 14 institutions are functioning optimally,” he said. “Our goal is to make Delta a leading hub for technical education and skills acquisition in Nigeria.”

The commissioner added that beyond constructing schools, the ministry is investing in skill acquisition centres and production units, such as brick manufacturing and other technical projects designed to promote entrepreneurship and industrial growth within the state.

“Our focus is on equipping young people with the skills they need to be self-reliant and contribute to the economy,” Ufoh noted. “We also need more qualified teachers to strengthen our technical education system, and we are working towards addressing that.”

Hon. Ufoh reaffirmed that the Ministry of Technical Education remains aligned with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda — which stands for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security — emphasising that technical education is central to the administration’s vision for sustainable development.

He concluded by assuring that with the continued support of the government and citizens, the state’s technical education system will produce highly skilled graduates capable of driving innovation, industry, and economic transformation in Delta State.
