The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated the Tinubu Torchbearers (TTB), a women’s movement designed to mobilise grassroots support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. At the event held in Abuja on Friday, Dame Princess Minnie Igbrude, PhD, was unveiled as the Coordinator for Delta State.
In her remarks after the inauguration, Dame Igbrude expressed gratitude to the APC National Women Leader, Dr Mary Alile, for the confidence reposed in her. She pledged to mobilise Delta women across communities to deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in the forthcoming polls.
“I see this as a call to duty. We will take the message of renewed hope to every ward, every community, every church, mosque, and marketplace. Delta women will rise in unity and strength to ensure victory at all levels,” she said.
Dame Igbrude also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his support for women, describing him as “a true friend and encourager of women in Delta State.” She praised the governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, for her You Matter Foundation, which she noted is “touching and changing lives across the state.”
“Delta women are ready. We will carry the torch of progress and make sure the light of President Tinubu’s achievements reaches every corner of our state,” she added.
In her address, APC National Women Leader, Dr Mary Alile, described the Torchbearers as “a coalition of female political gladiators and grassroots mobilisers committed to spreading the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
She emphasised that President Tinubu’s economic reforms, infrastructure projects, and investments in education, agriculture, social welfare, and women’s empowerment, achieved within just two years of office, deserve to be highlighted nationwide.
“Let your commitment to the APC cause be stronger than ever before,” Alile charged the women. “We are the Tinubu Torchbearers. We are not just lighting the path to 2027; we are setting it ablaze with unity, purpose, and passion. Let history remember this moment as the time Nigerian women rose together and changed the trajectory of a nation.”
Alile also commended First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her dedication to uplifting women through education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and other social intervention programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative. She urged Nigerian women to intensify advocacy for the passage of the “special seats for women in the legislature” bill, describing it as long overdue.
Speaking on behalf of the state coordinators, Princess Ekene Ozobu of Anambra pledged that the Torchbearers would “hit the ground running.”
