Covid-19 palliative: Coalition group, others threaten to investigate Delta Government

Members of a non governmental organization known as Civil Society Organisation (CSO) and Media Practitioners in Delta State have set-up a situation room to checkmate and get feedback on government policy and implementation of the Coronavirus pandemic in the state.

This was disclosed in a press briefing on Monday in Warri, Delta State.

In the meeting, the group sought for an interface with relevant government and non-governmental agencies involved in the fight against Covid -19

The group also advised the state government to set up Testing and more isolation Centres across the state in order to combat the deadly coronavirus.

However, Commending the State Government for her effort in the distribution of palliative to Deltans, the group asked for sustainable development for the vulnerable, calling for erring personnel in the pandemic policy implementation to be sanctioned.

They also said there should be sanitization of all public places to be gems free.

Speaking further, the group ordered a thorough investigation into the killing of Joseph Peussu, alleged shooting, and arrest of peaceful protesters in Sapele and other assaults during the lock-down so far.

They also advocated for dignity and respect for human rights amidst the pandemic charging all to strictly adhere to government directives by staying safe.

In the briefing, the group observed that the situation room shall monitor policies and responses to the Covid- 19 pandemic, health, and human rights, compliance with government policies and pronouncements, government expenditure of the Covid 19 funds and other appropriation for the purpose of transparency.

The statement was jointly signed by Comrade Bonny Akaeze; co-Chairman and Founder, nonviolent Social Change, Comrade Akpobome Rufus Ibebe; co-Chairman, DG Youth Emancipation Movement of Africa, Comrade Joshua Ghereje; joint secretary, Social Action, Comrade Agbubi Emmanuel; joint secretary, Civil Rights Council and Comrade Victor Ochie; spoke person, Coordinator, Young Nigeria Rights Organization.
