The Delta State Police Commissioner, Cp Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa mni, has yesterday inaugurated the Joint Technical Task Team (JTTT) on Emergency Response.
This is contained in a statement signed by the State’s Police command and was made available to newsmen in Asaba, the State capital.
The CP said the essence of The JTTT is to curtail the spread of coronavirus pandemic and the inter-states smuggling of travelers in the state.
He lamented how commercial vehicle operators despite the inter-state lockdown ferry passengers, who primarily are not authorized to move into the state and thereby spreading the virus.
Inuwa said: “Commercial vehicle operators, who are very conversant with the land terrain, avoid the roadblocks and ply alternative routes within the interior to beat the check-points. The leadership of the NURTW should caution their members against circumventing the rules because henceforth, it will no longer be business as usual.”
Members of the Committee include the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Muhammed Inuwa, who is the chairman; representatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC); All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN); the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) ; National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW); and the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners.

Inuwa, who inaugurated the team, said security operatives and other enforcers would mount roadblocks at border points, and they are to arrest and prosecute operators of commercial vehicles that violate the inter-state lockdown by smuggling travelers while transporting food and agricultural inputs.
Mr. Micheal Ikeogwu, state Chairman of NUJ, who is a member of the team, promised adequate publicity of the activities of the team without compromising standards.

The seven-member team was asked to co-opt two members each from their agencies or union to further enlarge the committee with the duty to develop a window that will facilitate the free and unhindered movement of food, livestock, and agricultural inputs, excluding passengers without compromising security and public health.
