A court in Rivers State has ruled that a woman, Mrs. Kate Ngbor, can no longer use her ex-husband’s name, 11 years after their divorce.
Chief Sam Ngbor, her former husband, went to court asking for her to stop using his last name. The court agreed with him and ordered that she must stop using “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor” immediately.
The court said that unless Chief Sam Ngbor gives permission, Mrs Kate cannot continue using his name. She must go back to using her maiden name or any other name of her choice, except “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor.”
This ruling means that she can no longer introduce herself as “Mrs. Kate Ngbor” or “Mrs. Kate Sam-Ngbor.”
