The Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, on Tuesday ordered a DNA test on Liam Aloba, the son of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The order was given by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga after Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, asked the court to determine whether Liam is indeed Mohbad’s biological son.
According to the court ruling, the DNA test must be carried out in an accredited medical facility either in Nigeria or abroad. The Chief Medical Officer or Pathologist at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos — where Mohbad’s body is being kept — was also authorised to provide tissue, hair, or other samples required for the test.
Joseph Aloba, represented by his lawyer Augustine Adegbemi of the law firm of Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) & Co, told the court that confirming Liam’s paternity is important because it could affect the child’s welfare and the mother’s legal responsibilities.
Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, who was listed as the respondent in the case, did not oppose the application. She was represented in court by her lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu.
The court further directed that:
Two separate DNA tests must be conducted, one in Nigeria and another abroad.
Both parties or their representatives must be present when the samples are taken.
The case has been adjourned until November 11, 2025.
