CNG Stations Almost Ready in Delta as 900 Life Jackets Arrive for Boaters

The Delta State Government has confirmed that the construction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Asaba and Warri is moving forward quickly. These CNG stations will help provide cleaner, cheaper fuel for vehicles in the state.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure, shared the update while speaking in Asaba, the state capital. He explained that the CNG station in Warri is almost completed, and that equipment for the station is expected to arrive soon. Once the equipment is installed, the station will be ready for full operation by next month.

The Asaba station is also under construction and progressing well. Commissioner Agofure said he visits the construction sites weekly to monitor the work and ensure everything is going according to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Delta State Government and NIPCO, the gas company building the stations.

“It will please me to inform you that work has commenced and is ongoing rapidly. I do visit the site once every week to follow up on the level of work that is being done,” he said.

“I am very pleased with what I am seeing so far. I am very sure that they will meet the timeline they gave. As for the one in Warri, that one is only waiting for equipment, and they have confirmed to me that it will be fully operational next month.”

In another development, the Delta State Government has received 900 life jackets from the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. These life jackets are the first batch of a total of 3,500 that the state expects to receive as part of a partnership with the federal government.

Mr. Agofure emphasized that these life jackets are essential for water transportation safety and will help prevent deaths during boat mishaps. He said the second and third batches of the life jackets will arrive next month.

“In the maritime sector, we were able to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and they have given us about 3,500 life jackets. The first batch has come, which is about 900,” he explained.

The Commissioner urged everyone using boats and other water transport systems in Delta to always wear life jackets and be safety conscious.

These efforts by the Delta State Government are part of a larger plan to modernize transportation in the state — by promoting cleaner energy through CNG and improving safety for people who travel by water.
