The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has rolled out stricter data requirements for all online business name update requests as part of efforts to strengthen verification, improve record accuracy, and curb fraud within its system.
The new directive, announced on Wednesday through a post on the Commission’s official X account, makes it compulsory for applicants to provide additional personal and contact details before their update requests can be processed.
According to the CAC, every Business Name Online Update must now include the proprietor’s date of birth, the registered office email, the proprietor’s email address, and a phone number for either the business office or the proprietor. Applicants are also required to upload a valid means of identification.
“These details are now mandatory to ensure proper verification and enhance the integrity of documentation,” the Commission said.
The CAC explained that the updated guidelines are part of its ongoing reforms designed to safeguard business records, reduce impersonation, streamline compliance checks, and ensure seamless communication with proprietors.
By enforcing the new requirements, the Commission aims to improve the reliability of its database and deliver more secure and efficient services to business owners nationwide.
The agency advised business proprietors to adhere to the new rules to avoid delays in processing their update requests.
The CAC, which is responsible for the registration and regulation of companies and business names in Nigeria, has in recent years transitioned from manual filing to a more digital, automated system. This move is intended to make registration and updates faster, easier, and more accessible to entrepreneurs across the country.
