Behind the Scenes: How Okowa Plans to Take Back Delta PDP

Delta State, Nigeria – Something strange is happening in Delta State politics. Many politicians who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) are now facing big problems. Even though some news reports try to play it down, it’s becoming clear that all is not well.

At the centre of the issue is a big disagreement over power. The new members from PDP and the old members of APC have not agreed on how to share leadership roles in the party. This is causing fear and confusion among the defectors — the people who left PDP to join APC.

Okowa Steps In to Protect PDP

Over the weekend, The Townhall learned that the former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, is not happy about this situation. He has decided to take action to stop APC from taking full control, especially since many of the new APC members used to be strong PDP supporters.

A top former PDP leader who is close to PDP Chairman Kingsley Esiso spoke secretly to our reporter. He said, “Okowa has told Esiso to take back control of the PDP across the state. We are not going to just sit back. We are getting ready to strengthen our support in all communities.”

At first, Okowa planned to give the leadership of the PDP to Elder Emma Ogidi. But with Ogidi getting older and with things heating up politically, that plan had to change. Okowa and his team are now moving fast to keep the party strong and united.

Power Struggles Within APC

Meanwhile, things are not going smoothly in the APC either. One of the main APC leaders, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, is still very powerful. He controls many of the APC structures in different towns and areas, which makes it hard for the new defectors to get in and take part.

The anonymous source said, “Omo-Agege is not going to give up his power just like that. Until everyone agrees on how to share leadership, we are watching and planning carefully.”

Defectors Go Missing in Ika South

In Ika South — Okowa’s hometown and a strong PDP area, most of the defectors have not even officially joined the APC. According to the APC Chairman in Ika South, Hon. Hilary Fada Ibude, almost all of the PDP defectors have failed to register with APC.

“They came with loud noise, but only 0.5% of them have signed up with us,” Ibude told journalists in Agbor. “If you don’t have an APC membership card, you’re not part of the party.”

Ibude warned that new members must show real commitment. “We are not giving special seats to anyone just because they defected. You must be ready to work and follow the rules.”

As things stand now, politics in Delta State is like a game of hide and seek, especially for the defectors. Everyone is waiting to see what happens next.
