The Nigerian military has increased security presence along Gado Nasko Road in Kubwa, Abuja, deploying personnel and eight patrol vehicles after Lieutenant A. M. Yerima was reportedly trailed by unidentified individuals on Sunday.
According to sources who spoke with Vanguard, a convoy of eight military vehicles was sighted around 7 p.m., conducting intensified patrols along the Gado Nasko axis. The development is believed to be linked to concerns over the safety of Lt. Yerima.
The incident was said to have occurred around 6 p.m., when two unmarked white Hilux vans, occupied by individuals dressed in black, allegedly trailed the officer from the NIPCO filling station off the Kubwa Expressway to the Gado Nasko Road area. The suspicious movement reportedly triggered the immediate activation of security measures in the neighbourhood.
However, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied receiving any report of an attempted assassination or trailing of the military officer.
Reacting to the viral claims, the FCT Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said no such incident had been reported to the police.
“The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to publications circulating on social media alleging an attempted assassination on Lt. Ahmed Yerima,” she stated.
“The Command wishes to categorically state that no such incident has been reported or recorded anywhere within the Federal Capital Territory. The public is advised to disregard this false information and desist from spreading unverified claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.”
SP Adeh urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.
Meanwhile, military sources say the alleged trailing of the officer is currently being investigated, although no official statement has yet been released.
