The Action Peoples Party (APP) has achieved a decisive victory in the Rivers State local government election, winning 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions. The announcement was made on Saturday by the Chief Election Officer of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli, during a press briefing in Port Harcourt.
While announcing the results, Enebeli noted that the outcome for the remaining local government area, Etche, has been put on hold due to the ongoing collation of results. He reassured the public that the results for Etche, along with the 319 councillorship seats across the state, would be declared at a later date.
The RSIEC chairman provided further details on the election process, highlighting that it took place across 6,866 units in Rivers State, with 18 political parties participating. Enebeli praised the commitment of political parties and the people of Rivers State for their peaceful conduct throughout the election process.
“The election was smooth, safe, free, fair, credible, and transparent. The process was also successful, and notably, it was free of violence, making it one of the most treasured council polls in the state’s history despite all odds,” Enebeli stated.
He went on to announce the winners from the 22 local government areas where results have been finalized. The successful candidates include:

This election comes shortly after the Federal Government’s three-month ultimatum for states to conduct local government elections, further emphasizing the significance of the process. With the APP now holding a strong majority across the local government areas, this marks a substantial political victory for the party in Rivers State. However, the people of Etche Local Government Area will need to wait a little longer to hear the final outcome of their election.
As the results await finalization, the RSIEC has confirmed that all steps will be taken to ensure the credibility and fairness of the Etche results.
