The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State on Sunday endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement took place during a high-profile APC Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba. The meeting was attended by top political figures, including serving and former lawmakers, commissioners, local government chairmen, and party leaders from across Delta’s three senatorial districts.
The motion to endorse both leaders was moved by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), and seconded by Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
Keyamo praised President Tinubu’s “bold reforms and transformative leadership,” highlighting the removal of fuel subsidy as a responsible policy decision that freed billions for infrastructure projects.
“Just two days ago, Mr President approved $1 billion for the resuscitation of the Warri Port and other key projects such as the Lagos-Calabar coastal road and the rebuilding of Lagos Airport. These are direct results of subsidy removal savings. The President has proven to be a prudent manager and visionary leader,” Keyamo said.
He also commended Governor Oborevwori for his leadership and infrastructural strides in Delta State, before moving that the party pass a vote of confidence in both Tinubu and Oborevwori as its candidates for 2027.
In seconding the motion, Ochei praised the “inclusive governance and developmental impact” of both leaders, declaring that the people of Delta State and the South-South region “stand firmly behind them for their vision for a renewed Nigeria and Delta State.”
The motion was unanimously adopted by all present.
Oborevwori Expresses Gratitude
In his response, Governor Oborevwori thanked the APC stakeholders for their confidence in him and President Tinubu. He pledged to continue his developmental agenda and strengthen party unity.
“The APC is growing stronger by the day. More governors will join us before the end of November,” he said.
He described President Tinubu as “a man who rewards loyalty, commitment, and results,” adding that the upcoming election would prove who truly supports the President.
“In 2027, our votes will be our report card. Those who claim to love the President must show it through the ballot. I won 21 out of 25 local governments in the last election because we worked and stayed loyal. That’s what real commitment means,” Oborevwori declared.
The Governor warned against disloyalty within the party, saying some members who didn’t work for the APC during the last election still benefited unfairly.
“Some in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them. When the time comes, we will expose them. This time, loyalty will be rewarded, not hypocrisy,” he said.
He highlighted ongoing infrastructural projects, including the ₦59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover, the ₦39 billion Ughelli Flyover, and the Warri/Sapele Road rehabilitation, which he said would begin on Tuesday.
“This is the only state where contractors are not owed. We pay 40% mobilisation upfront because we manage resources efficiently, and the President’s reforms are yielding results,” he added.
Okowa: “APC Now Stronger and More United”
Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, who recently joined the APC, described the April 28, 2025 mass defection into the party as “a turning point in the state’s political history.”
“Joining the APC was the right step in the right direction. The party is now stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027,” Okowa said.
He praised President Tinubu’s economic decisions as “bold and necessary” and commended Governor Oborevwori’s humility and inclusive leadership.
Party Leaders Unite Behind Endorsement
APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, declared that Governor Oborevwori’s performance had made the APC “formidable and unstoppable.”
“Anyone who plans to contest against the Governor will meet a brick wall,” he said.
From the three senatorial districts, party leaders — Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central), Chief Adizue Eluaka (Delta North), and Austin Oribioye (Delta South) — all pledged total unity and commitment to victory.
Representing the National Assembly, Senators Ede Dafinone, Ned Nwoko, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, and Hon. Nicholas Mutu jointly declared that “there is no vacancy till 2031,” pledging continued support for the APC and their constituents.
Prominent party figures such as Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, and Senator James Manager echoed the same sentiment, affirming that there would be “no opposition to Governor Oborevwori in 2027.”
ALGON representative and Bomadi Council Chairman, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, assured that all local government chairmen were fully committed to ensuring the party’s victory.
Former National Women Leader, Hon. Stella Okotete, called for greater inclusion of women, stressing that women make up over 51% of the voting population.
Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, also pledged the support of all Assembly members for the Governor and the President.
Representing the Forum of LGA Party Chairmen, Mr Nobert Akachukwu lauded the Governor’s leadership, saying the APC in Delta had been “renewed and re-energised for the MORE Agenda.”
As the meeting ended, the atmosphere was filled with celebration, chants, and a strong display of unity — signalling a renewed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 elections.
