AN OPEN LETTER TO THE GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE

Subject: Urgent Appeal for Intervention on Deteriorating Roads and Infrastructure in Aniocha North LGA

His Excellency,
Rt. Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori
Government House,
Asaba, Delta State

Your Excellency,

I write to you today as a concerned and bona fide son of Aniocha North LGA, and on behalf of the residents of our local government, to draw your urgent attention to the deplorable state of roads and critical infrastructure in our communities—a situation that has become a serious impediment to daily life, safety, and economic progress.

Your Excellency, referring to your statement on 14th January 2026 during the presentation of 65 SUVs to traditional rulers, where you declared, “We have made money available in all the local governments; ask us anything and we will do it”, I am hereby presenting our humble request for Aniocha North LGA.

As Your Excellency is aware, quality infrastructure and road networks are essential for social and economic development. Unfortunately, the roads in Aniocha North LGA have deteriorated to the point where simple commutes now become arduous journeys, endangering lives and hindering progress.

Specifically, the following roads are in critical condition, with deep potholes, severe erosion, and inadequate drainage, making them almost impassable:

Idumuogo / Onicha Olona Road

Idumuogo / Issele-Mptime Road

Idumuogo / Ukwu-Nzu Road

Obomkpa / Ubulubu Road

Ugboba / Ukwu-Nzu Road

Isseleuku / Onicha Ugbo Road

Onicha Ugbo / Idumuje Ugboko Road

Onicha Olona / Ezi Road

Ezi / Ukala Road

The ongoing neglect has caused frequent vehicle breakdowns, increased transportation costs, disrupted trade and agriculture, and posed serious risks to commuters and pedestrians. Access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and emergency response has been severely affected.

Furthermore, Your Excellency, I wish to draw attention to the Leather Factory in Isseleuku, commissioned in 2015 under Governor Uduaghan’s administration as part of the state’s Beyond Oil agenda. Intended as a youth empowerment and vocational training center, the facility has sadly been neglected, denying the community a key avenue for skill acquisition and economic growth.

Our security agencies—including police, civil defence, and local vigilantes—also lack functional patrol vehicles to respond promptly to incidents, particularly in rural or hard-to-reach areas. Enhanced security infrastructure, including surveillance cameras, drones, and modern equipment, would greatly improve safety.

Additionally, health facilities, especially Isseleuku General Hospital, suffer from poor sanitation, inadequate staffing, insufficient medical supplies, dilapidated buildings, and long patient wait times. Government primary and secondary schools, including those in my community of Idumuogo, face funding shortages and lack essential learning tools, limiting the quality of education for our children.

Your Excellency, despite the commendable efforts of our council chairman and other stakeholders, our communities continue to languish under inadequate infrastructure. The support of the state and federal government is urgently needed.

In light of Your Excellency’s MORE AGENDA commitment to infrastructural development, I humbly request:

  1. Immediate assessment and comprehensive rehabilitation of roads and infrastructure across Aniocha North LGA before the rainy season, with allocation of funds for sustainable maintenance.
  2. Revitalization of the Isseleuku Leather Factory to empower youth and stimulate local economic development.
  3. Provision of adequate security and health resources, including patrol vehicles, surveillance tools, medical supplies, and school facilities.

Aniocha North LGA, comprising 10 federal wards, 20 state wards, and 18 communities, with a landmass of approximately 625 km² and a population exceeding 350,000, deserves functional infrastructure to thrive socially and economically.

I am confident that under your leadership, the MORE AGENDA government will respond promptly to these pressing concerns.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,
Comrade Peter Onyeisi Marvellous (Mr. Marvis)
