Activist Urges Delta Governor to Channel FAAC Allocations into State Development, Keep Julius Berger for Major Projects

Environmental activist Comrade Chief Sheriff Mulade has called on Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to ensure that the increased monthly allocations from the Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) are invested in physical and critical infrastructure across the state.

Chief Mulade, the National Coordinator for the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ), made the appeal shortly after being decorated as Patron of the Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council in Warri.

Addressing the surge in federal allocations to Delta State, Mulade noted that Oborevwori is in a unique position, as Delta is currently the wealthiest state in Nigeria, making him the richest governor in the country. He emphasized that these financial resources should be translated into tangible development, benefiting all areas of the state.

“Deltans want to see these huge resources reflected in terms of infrastructure across the state so that we can appreciate and thank the governor for his efforts,” Mulade said. He added that, as an activist, he will continue to voice the concerns of the people to the government, while also urging the state to avoid borrowing funds given its current financial status.

Mulade commended the governor for initiating several projects, particularly praising the involvement of construction giant Julius Berger in the state. He cited the ongoing flyover projects and urged the governor to retain Julius Berger for significant projects like the Ayakoromo Bridge, which would connect key economic hubs, including the Burutu and Forcados terminals.

“Delta is rich enough to even lend to other states, and with the current economy, we are blessed to use our resources for substantial development,” he stated. Mulade reiterated the importance of utilizing Delta’s wealth for large-scale infrastructure projects, urging the government to engage Julius Berger in more transformative developments across the state.
