Ukala-Okpunor, Delta State – April 5, 2025: It was a day filled with tears, smiles, and warm memories as people from all walks of life gathered in Ukala-Okpunor, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State, to say their final goodbyes to Chief Adolphus Enyi Ejikeme, a respected traditional doctor, father, and community leader.
Chief Adolphus, also called “Papa Enyi” by many, passed away on January 25, 2025, at the ripe old age of 85 years. His burial took place on April 7, 2025, and brought together family members, friends, leaders, and even entertainers to celebrate a life full of hard work, wisdom, and service to humanity.
A Life Story Full of Strength and Wisdom
Born in 1940, Chief Adolphus Enyi faced challenges early in life. He lost his father while he was still a boy and couldn’t continue his primary education. He was later taken in by a native doctor after falling ill and almost dying. This event changed his life forever.
Living with the native doctor, he learned everything about Traditional African Medicine. He became so good at it that people started coming from far and wide to seek his help. He even moved to Lagos, Nigeria’s busiest city, where he practised medicine and learned bubusinessoand w to relate with people.
To Chief Adolphus, helping people was more important than money. He spent his life healing the sick and giving people hope through herbal treatments and spiritual guidance. He built 10 houses, owned over 100 plots of land, ran a palm oil mill, and helped many people grow in life.
A Devoted Father and Community Leader
Chief Adolphus had six surviving children who loved him dearly. He believed in education and made sure all his children went to higher institutions. He was not only a loving father to his own family but also a father figure to many others.
His first son, Engr. Ifeanyi Patrick Enyi, said, “My father was a traditional doctor who was well known in Delta State and beyond. He trained all of us in school and made sure we succeeded. He cared more about helping people than making money. I thank everyone who came to celebrate with us. May God bless and take you all back safely.”
His second son, Ogbeufi Lawrence Isioma Enyi, described his father as hardworking and principled, saying, “He always taught us that we must work hard to make it in life, and he lived by that rule.”
His daughter, Rosemary Ifeyinwa Enyi, shared an emotional message, “January 26th will always be a sad day. I lost a hero and a loving father. In my next life, I would still choose him as my dad. I love and miss him so much.”
Another son, Engr. Azubuike Enyi, said, “My father hated evil. He helped everyone and was full of wisdom. People loved him because he was good and kind.”
His grandson, David Enyi, said, “He was a great mentor who taught me so many things. I hope to continue his legacy.”
His granddaughter, Ifechukwudi Azubuike Enyi, said with tears, “I will miss my grandpa so much. He made my childhood fun and full of happy memories.”
Leaders and Guests Pay Tribute
Important guests at the funeral also shared kind words:
Barr. Uwasike Austin Esq, Permanent Secretary of the Delta State House of Assembly, said, “Chief Adolphus was not just a Nigerian citizen but a citizen of the world. He gave hope, helped people, and stood for good. I’m proud to have known him.”
Hon. Dr Stella-Maris Mejulu, former Chairperson of FIDA Delta, added, “He lived a full life. Death is a journey we all must take, but Chief Enyi’s life is one to celebrate. His children are doing well, and that shows the kind of father he was.”
High Chief Fidelis Ndekwe, the Onoyi of Ukala Kingdom, said, “Chief Enyi was a patriot and a generous leader. He was one of the most respected traditional doctors in this community.”
And to make the day even more special, popular Anioma musician Ogbogu performed to entertain the large crowd that came to hhonourChief Enyi.
A Legacy That Lives On
Chief Adolphus Enyi was more than just a healer. He was a genius of his time, combining traditional wisdom with modern understanding. His work reached not just Delta State but even places outside Nigeria. He believed in honesty, kindness, nature, and community service.
Though he is gone, the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the lives he touched will live on in the hearts of many.
