Israel has reportedly shared intelligence with the United States about what officials described as a new and specific Iranian plan to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to multiple US media reports.
The reported intelligence comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran following renewed military exchanges that have raised fears of another major conflict in the Middle East.
According to the reports, US authorities had already been monitoring intelligence suggesting possible threats against Trump, but the information provided by Israel this week pointed to a fresh and more specific assassination plot. The details of the alleged plan were not disclosed.
The Wall Street Journal and CNN, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, said the intelligence was recently shared with Washington.
Iran has repeatedly vowed to retaliate against Trump over the January 2020 US drone strike that killed top Iranian General Qassem Soleimani during Trump’s first term in office.
Responding to questions about the reports, the White House referred to comments made by Trump on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump said he believed he remained a target of Iranian threats.
“They want to take out the US leader — me. I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists,” Trump said.
US media also reported that Trump switched from a newer Air Force One aircraft to an older presidential plane during his return trip from Turkey as part of additional security measures recommended by the US Secret Service.
The reported aircraft change fueled speculation about heightened security concerns following the renewed tensions between the United States and Iran, although officials have not publicly disclosed further details about the alleged threat.
