Delta Police Arrest Murder Suspect in Agbor, Bust Armed Robbery and Cult Gang in Warri

Asaba, Delta State | The Delta State Police Command says it has made major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against violent crime, cultism, and other threats to public safety across the state. Acting on intelligence and community support, police officers arrested a murder suspect in Agbor and a suspected cult and armed robbery syndicate in Warri, recovering dangerous weapons in the process.

Murder Suspect Arrested in Agbor

Police operatives attached to the Agbor Division have arrested 25-year-old Musa Buhari of Alihagu Village, Agbor, for his role in the abduction and murder of 53-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Friday Orumgbe, from Idumu Oza, Agbor.

According to the police, Mr Orumgbe went missing on October 6, 2025, after leaving home with his Lifan motorcycle. His family reported him missing the next day. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor, CSP Michael Obekpa, immediately launched an investigation.

Through intelligence gathering, officers arrested Buhari on October 16, 2025, and recovered the victim’s Tecno T101 phone from him. During interrogation, Buhari confessed that he and an accomplice, Manu Usman (now on the run), posed as passengers, lured the motorcyclist into a bush near Power Line, Oki, Agbor, and attacked him with a hoe before stealing his motorcycle and phone.

The next day, October 17, police led the suspect to the crime scene, where they found the victim’s decomposed body. His family later identified the remains, which were taken to the Central Hospital Mortuary in Agbor for autopsy.

The police said Buhari remains in custody while efforts continue to track down his accomplice.

Cult and Armed Robbery Syndicate Busted in Warri

In another operation, the ‘A’ Division Police, Warri, led by CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, arrested two suspects during a night patrol in the Ubeji community on October 19, 2025, following reports of renewed cult clashes in the area.

At about 3:00 a.m., a patrol team spotted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV (registration number KWL359DS, Abuja) parked suspiciously with two people inside — 33-year-old Christian Agbajor Akpos and 26-year-old Sophia Thomas.

When questioned, the duo could not explain why they were out at such late hours. A search of their vehicle led to the recovery of:

  • One locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun,
  • One battle axe,
  • One live cartridge, and
  • One expended cartridge.

Police investigations revealed that Akpos is a member of the MAPHITE confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM). He confessed that the gun was given to him by a man known as Mr Shimaye, said to be the Deputy Chairman of the Ubeji community.

Both suspects are now in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and recover more weapons.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, praised the officers for their professionalism and quick action. He assured residents that the police would continue to use intelligence-led policing and community collaboration to keep Delta State safe.

“The Command remains fully committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Delta. We will not relent in our fight against cultism, armed robbery, and all forms of violent crime,” CP Olufemi said.

SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Delta State, signed the statement on behalf of the Command.
