Nigerian film star, Yul Edochie, son of Pete Edochie has knocked down claims that Nollywood movies are the reasons for constant ritual killings in the country.
He asked why would people keep blaming Nollywood for ritual killings, which according to him, have been occurring for years stating that crime can not go away in a country where people are living with extreme poverty.
He said this on Friday via his Instagram handle stating that the government should find a lasting solution to the suffering of the people.
According to Yul Edochie, on IG, he wrote “From when I was a kid in the eighties, I started hearing about ritual killings in Nigeria. There was no Nollywood. Hunger and poverty make people do crimes. No, be Nollywood cause am, Nollywood is only showing what happens in the society”.
“Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty. A hungry man is an angry man. Fix the country and crime will go away, don’t blame Nollywood.
“Frustrated people use a sniper to commit suicide, the remedy is to fix the reason for the frustration not ban sniper.”
This is coming after several people have criticized Nollywood for using scenes involving money rituals.
Recall on Wednesday, the House of Representatives asked the executive director, National File and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Adedayo Thomas to rise to the mandate of the agency as the clearinghouse for all movies produced in the country.
