The Delta State Police Command has condemned the actions of a police officer who was seen in a viral video assaulting a young man along the Asaba-Onitsha expressway.
The erring officer attached to Rapid Response Squad (RRS) was found guilty of assault and he has also been subjected to internal disciplinary mechanisms by the command.
This was disclosed by the command spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright, on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in Asaba the state capital.
According to DSP Bright, he stated that the attention of the Delta State Police Command has been drawn to a video-making round on various social media handles.
He said the video captured Policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Command assaulting a young man along the Asaba-Onitsha expressway.
He also said the command condemns the act of the Policemen in totality.
The police spokesperson while explaining, added that the Command wishes to state that the incident occurred sometime in August 2021 and immediately it was brought to the knowledge of the Command, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, psc+ directed the incident be looked into which has since been done and the erring Policemen indeed found guilty of assault and were subjected to internal disciplinary mechanism after which they were adequately sanctioned.
The command image maker further explained that the CP while condemning the malfeasance conduct of the officers also urges members of the public to remain calm and assured of the Command’s commitment in dealing with any officer who disregards the human right of any person.
DSP Bright said, to this end, members of the public are urged to call any of the following numbers and report cases of abuse to human rights or any other infractions by Policemen of the Command.
