Nigerian superstar, Wizkid has won the ‘Best African Act at the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA).
The singer ousted his fellow contenders to win the award on Sunday.
Wizkid was nominated for the award category together with Tems, Amaarae, Diamond Platnumz, and Focalistic.
The awards event is being presented by Viacom International Media Networks to celebrate artists and music culture.
Recall in October 2020, Wizkid released his fourth album titled ‘Made In Lagos’.
MIL featured music heavyweight like Damian Marley, Skepta, H.E.R, Ella Mai, Burna Boy, Tems, and Terri.
Since the release of the album, he has been on tour selling out concerts across the world.
Also, in 2021, Wizkid dropped the visuals for the track ‘Essence’ and also followed it up with a remix featuring Justin Bieber.
‘Essence’ shot into the Billboard Hot 100 chart, banging into the top 10.
In mid-2019, Wizkid had featured on Beyoncé’s ‘Brown Skin Girl’, a track off ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ soundtrack.
This had gained him prominent global awards, as fans applauded him on social media.
