Nigerian fast-rising Afrobeat musician, Chukwuka Ekweani, popularly known as CKay, has become the first African artiste to make a debut on the Billboard Independent Album Chart.
This is coming after the outcome of his EP ‘Ckay The First’ debuting at no. 24 on the Billboard Independent Album Charts.
The Billboard Independent Album Charts is a ranking of the highest selling independent albums in the United States. The chart focuses on artists who are not signed to any major label, like Ckay.
The rankings are compiled weekly and Ckay The First EP has debuted on the rankings of the week ending October 9th.
In 2019, Ckay The First EP was released and just recently, the album has debuted at no. 4 on the Billboard World Albums Chart.
The success came as a result of the rapid growth of his ‘Love Nwatiti’ song on TikTok which has gone viral.
