Irabor condemns the attack on NDA, saying ‘This madness must end’

The chief of defence staff, Lucky Irabor, has condemned the attack by bandits on the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.

Irabor who said the attack is not a normal banditry operation described the attack as madness that must come to an end.

The attack which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday resulted in the deaths of two officers.

Speaking with journalists in Yola, Adamawa state capital on Tuesday, Irabor expressed concern over the attacks by bandits and gave the assurance that security agencies are on top of the situation.

According to Irabor in his expression, he said, “The incident in Kaduna has been undertaken by bandits, but it’s more of an armed robber coming to your house. The infiltration didn’t come by the normal banditry action. But these are things we’re already looking at, and in due course, you’ll get the details.”

“Suffice to say, any form of insecurity is a cause of worry for anyone. That’s why for us, we’re more determined than this madness must be brought to an end very swiftly.”

The Kaduna state government also condemned the attack in a statement issued on Tuesday by Samuel Aruwan, commissioner for internal security and home affairs.

The statement reads, “The Kaduna State Government has received with sadness the report of the unfortunate security breach at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna in the early hours of Tuesday 24th August 2021. The security breach at the Academy led to the death of two personnel and the abduction of one officer.”

“Being the host of the Academy and a partner in several spheres of national security and development, Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been briefed of the development, and on behalf of the Government and People of Kaduna State, has prayed for the repose of the souls of the personnel who lost their lives. The Governor conveys heartfelt empathy to the Academy, and the immediate families of the personnel, and also extends deep concern to the family of the abducted officer.

“Furthermore, the Government of Kaduna State extends its unreserved solidarity to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and all security agencies who are making immense sacrifices on different fronts.

“The Government hereby appeals to the good citizens of the state to volunteer useful information to the military and security agencies in the campaign against banditry and kidnapping, in the state and beyond.

“On its part, the Kaduna State Government will continue to take actions considered imperative in the campaign against bandits throughout the state.”
