Ovikings Open Mic: Comedy platform for youth empowerment and self-discovery

Delta State-born comedian and Ambassador of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Ovuokeroye Samuel Akpobashahan a.k.a Ovikings have prepared modalities to host community-driven and youth programs under the POCACOV scheme tagged Ovkings Open Mic.

The Ovikings Open Mic is a comedy competition on its second season and it’s slated to take place in Asaba, Plateau and Oyo State around September 2021.

Ovikings who is also known as MC Alleluya explained that his love for the open mic competition is borne out of his desire as POCACOV Ambassador to aid and set the direction for Young Minds (Nigerian Youths) which will, in turn, help them to remain positive and also create a platform of value reorientation, self-discovery, and strategic leadership direction.

Ovikings made these revelations recently while briefing the National Coordinator of POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu, on the state of preparation of the activity during a virtual meeting with Pacacov Ambassadors coordinated from the Pacacov resource center in Enugu.

According to Ovikings during his explanation, he said that the open mic competition is geared towards engendering a platform to empower and promote the self-discovery of Nigerian youth with extraordinary comic talents.

He further said, “The Open Mic Competition will elicit self-discovery and the winners who through modalities worked out from stakeholders, will be supported and encouraged to take up the talent and this will help them to remain focus, positive, and eschewing cultism, substance, and drug abuse, violent behaviors, and other vices and with time.”

“They will be employers of labor and create platforms for others to discover themselves, remain focus and positive.

“This is comedy and it is part of the entertainment, it brings peace, love, unity amongst community members and the whole world at large and brings new hope for Nigerian youths especially those with the hidden talents and pointing out that the Open Mic competition is open to every Nigerian citizens and resident with the regional audition slated to take place in September on a date and venue that will be later disclosed for Asaba, Jos and Ibadan”

“Those that pull through the regional audition will head to Lagos where five finalists and the best will emerge for the final events at Museums center Lagos from where they will be supported and empowered to take up the talents to the next level of strategic leadership direction”

“This is my way as POCACOV Ambassador towards helping youths to discover themselves and stay positive” Akpobasan stated.

Responding, the National Coordinator POCACOV, CSP Ebere Amaraizu appreciated the efforts of Ambassador Ovikings whom he described as the inspirer of the young minds with a mind-blowing and community-driven program that will offer a platform of value reorientation, self-discovery, and strategic leadership direction.

According to the National Coordinator of POCACOV, the OVikings Open Mic challenge is in line with the vision and mission of POCACOV as a community-driven program and public relations tool of the Nigeria Police Force using an activity base program of this nature to set out a direction that will not only mobilizing the youths and other stakeholders but encouraging popular participation for a peaceful, safe and secured community. He added.

It was gathered that Ovikings is a product of self-discovery after graduating from Delta State Polytechnics (Ogwashiukwu) where he studied Computer Science.

While in school, he discovered himself as a comedian and started the practice which earned him the best comedian under the then Student Union Government (S.U.G).

He is also an event manager and show host and has many Awards in entertainment and comedy and equally served as Comedy Radio Presenter in several Radio Stations in states like Delta, Ebonyi, Plateau, and Lagos and has been in Open Mic Comedy since after his Youth Service.
