Big Move: DYTM Throws Weight Behind Okowa’s Senate Bid

Asaba, Delta State — The Delta Youth Transformation Movement (DYTM) has thrown its weight behind former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, following his declaration of interest to contest for the Delta North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was made known by the President of the movement, Sir Isioma Melekwe, who described the former governor’s decision as a strategic move capable of strengthening representation and accelerating development across Delta North.

Speaking in a statement issued to the press, Melekwe noted that Okowa’s entry into the senatorial race comes at a time when experienced leadership and deep understanding of governance are critical to addressing the needs of the people.

He explained that Okowa’s years in public office, particularly as governor, demonstrated a strong commitment to policies that directly impacted lives, improved infrastructure, and promoted inclusive growth across Delta State.

According to him, the former governor’s track record continues to inspire confidence among stakeholders, especially youths who are eager to see sustained progress in the region.

“His decision to run is both timely and encouraging. It shows that he remains committed to serving the people and contributing to the development of Delta North at a higher legislative level,” Melekwe stated.

The DYTM President further stressed that the movement believes that effective representation requires experience, vision, and the ability to deliver tangible results — qualities he said Okowa has consistently demonstrated.

He added that DYTM would not only support the former governor morally but would also actively engage in grassroots mobilization, awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement to ensure widespread support ahead of the elections.

Melekwe also appealed to residents of Delta North to carefully consider the importance of continuity and tested leadership when making electoral decisions, noting that sustainable development depends on leaders with a clear understanding of governance and policy implementation.

He concluded by expressing optimism that, if elected, Okowa would attract more federal presence to the district, strengthen legislative advocacy, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Delta Youth Transformation Movement reiterated its commitment to supporting leaders who have demonstrated capacity, integrity, and dedication to public service, while encouraging greater youth participation in the democratic process.
