In a recent incident, a man named Nasiru Mukhtar has been placed in custody after reportedly assaulting the chief imam, Malam Murtala Sulaiman, during early morning prayers at a mosque in the Tudunwada area of Kano State. According to reports, the incident took place on October 22, 2024, around 5 a.m.
Witnesses say Mukhtar entered the mosque during the prayers, approached the imam, and unexpectedly attacked him. He allegedly grabbed the imam by the neck, slapped him, tore his clothes, and even took his microphone. Following the confrontation, the imam contacted the Kano State police, who later arrested Mukhtar.
In a Shariah Court session at Kofar Kudu, Mukhtar’s defense lawyer requested bail, suggesting further investigation into the case. However, Judge Malam Isah Rabi’u Gaya ordered a psychiatric assessment of the accused to evaluate his mental health.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 22, 2024, and Mukhtar will remain in custody until then.
