World Science Day: Delta To Build More Innovation Hubs And Technical Incubation Centers

The Delta State Government through the Ministry of Science and Technology and Innovation on Friday marks the 2023 World Science Day For Peace And Development.

The celebration with the theme “Building Trust In Science” was held at the Delta State Innovation Hub in Asaba after a successful roadshow exhibition conducted by the ministry.

As part of the activities aimed at promoting the importance of trust in scientific research and a deeper understanding of science and technology in the state, it was gathered that the Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, through his M.O.R.E Agenda intends to train more youth through ICT, build more Innovation Hubs, and establish technical incubation centers across the state.

According to the Commissioner for Science Technology, Hon. Odinigwe Daniel Odigie, in his welcome address, said this year’s occasion holds significance in the global community as it reflects on the role of Science and Technology in promoting peace, fostering sustainable development, and improving the quality of life for all.

Hon. Odigie stated that science has transformed our world from the simplest discoveries to the most groundbreaking advances of life-saving medical breakthroughs to sustainable energy solutions.

He reaffirmed the commitment that science like any other form of trust, must be nurtured and earned, especially in an age of misinformation and mistrust.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Ejiro Ogheneaga, said the celebration is just a means of creating awareness of the importance of science and technology in our lives while also improving our physical well-being, and imbibing scientific innovation.

Dr. Ogheneaga revealed that the government intended to train a lot of youth through ICT, build more Innovation Hubs across the state, and establish technical incubation centers.

In addition, the Managing Director and CEO, FUPRE Energy Solution Nig Limited, Engr. Dr. Omonigho B. Otanocha, who is the resource person at the event said, the World Science Day for Peace and Development event is celebrated on 10 November every year, to showcase the impact of science on socio-economic advances and stimulate wider public deliberations on emergent
scientific matters.

He added that Science plays a crucial role in fostering peace, sustainable development, and community well-being by providing evidence-based solutions and building trust through rigorous methodologies.

The highlight of the event was the distribution of writing materials to secondary school students who graced the celebration.
