Jungle Justice: 17 Arrested for Burning Man in Afikpo Community

The police have arrested 17 people in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, for the killing of a man named Uromchi Okorocha. The suspects accused Okorocha of using witchcraft to harm others in the village.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, explained in a statement on Sunday, January 5, 2025, that the group of youths captured Okorocha and set him on fire instead of reporting him to the police.

On January 3, 2025, police officers from the Ebonyi State Command went to the scene to save Okorocha, but he had already been killed and burned by the angry mob before they arrived.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, strongly condemned this act of jungle justice. He reminded citizens to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report any suspected crimes to the police.

The IGP also assured Nigerians that the police are committed to ensuring justice and keeping communities safe. He urged everyone to cooperate with security agencies by sharing helpful information to prevent violence and crime.

This incident is a reminder of the importance of following the law and allowing the authorities to handle criminal matters fairly.
