Why Governor Oborevwori Won the Governor of the Year Award

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State was recently given the Governor of the Year Award because of his smart way of managing money and improving the state without borrowing any funds. This was announced by Mr Charles Aniagwu, Delta State’s Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, during a press conference held on Monday in Asaba.

Mr Aniagwu explained that Governor Oborevwori has not only completed many projects left behind by the past government but has also started new projects. The most impressive part? He did all this without taking any loans, which shows that he is very good at managing the state’s money wisely.

Why Was the Award Given?

Mr Aniagwu said that the award wasn’t just a random decision. Even media organizations far away from Delta State, like THISDAY and ARISE News in Lagos and Abuja, noticed the governor’s good work. They paid attention to the progress in Delta State and decided that Governor Oborevwori deserved the award because of his achievements.

He said, “We thought we were the only ones who noticed the governor’s good work, but we didn’t know that even in Lagos and Abuja, the media houses were also watching and taking notes.”

Responding to Criticism

Not everyone was happy about the award. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who was the Deputy Senate President in the past, criticized the decision to give Governor Oborevwori the award. He questioned why the governor deserved such recognition.

In response, Mr. Aniagwu said that criticizing the governor’s achievements doesn’t make sense because the facts are clear. The governor has done a lot of work, and instead of complaining, people should be happy that Delta State is making progress. He even added that the governor had defeated Omo-Agege in 21 out of 25 local government areas during the last election, which shows that the people trust and support him.

He said, “Trying to make the state look bad because of personal reasons is not good for anyone. If the state is doing well, everyone should be happy, even if you are in the opposition.”

Mr Aniagwu also reminded Omo-Agege that when he was in the Senate, most of the projects he brought to Delta were only around his hometown, but Governor Oborevwori is building projects all over the state without discrimination.

What Has Governor Oborevwori Done?

Governor Oborevwori’s achievements include:

Road Projects:

15 km of new roads in the Ndokwa area.

Obi-Ibabu Road (over 4 km), which is ready for opening.

Ndemili-Utagba Uno Road and Eweshi-Utagba-Uno Road are still being worked on.

The Amai Road project is progressing well.

The Beneku Bridge has been completed.

Asaba-Ase Bridge project is ongoing, connecting Ndokwa East to Uzere in Isoko South.

Housing Projects:

Building 30 units of three-bedroom houses and 20 units of two-bedroom houses in Ozoro, Kwale, and Owa-Oyibu.

Education:

Four public universities are being run by the state government. No other state in Nigeria has a university in each of its senatorial districts like Delta State.

Healthcare:

Renovating over 150 healthcare centers across Delta State.

Improving facilities at the Central Hospital in Warri and the Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH) in Oghara.

Fairness and No Discrimination

Mr Aniagwu stressed that Governor Oborevwori does not discriminate based on political party differences. Everyone benefits from government projects, whether they support the governor’s party or not. The governor has even warned his team not to treat anyone unfairly because of their political views.

He said, “The governor believes that everyone deserves to benefit from government projects, no matter which party they support.”

Warning Against Land Grabbing

Mr Aniagwu also sent a strong message to people who were trying to illegally take government land. He warned that any illegal buildings on government land would be demolished, and the owners would have to pay for the cost of the demolition.

What About Senator Ned Nwoko?

When asked about Senator Ned Nwoko’s resignation from the party, Mr Aniagwu said that the governor and the PDP are not bothered. He believes that the party will continue to win elections in Aniocha North and other areas where Senator Nwoko currently represents.

Final Words

Mr Aniagwu concluded by saying that Governor Oborevwori’s excellent performance is the real reason why opposition politicians are upset. He encouraged them to focus on constructive criticism rather than trying to bring down the state’s progress.

He added, “We have a covenant with the people of Delta State to deliver development through the MORE Agenda (which stands for Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security). We are focused on that, not political fights.”

In Simple Words:
Governor Oborevwori won the Governor of the Year Award because he’s done a lot of good work—building roads, houses, hospitals, and schools—without borrowing money. He treats everyone fairly, no matter which political party they support. Some politicians are upset about the award, but the governor’s achievements speak for themselves.
