Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has alleged that the attacks on the correctional center and police headquarters in Owerri on Monday is been sponsored by aggrieved politicians.
Uzodinma alleged that aggrieved politicians are behind the attacks to destabilize the All Progressive Congress.
He made these revelations while speaking on Channels Television on Wednesday.
According to Uzodinma while speaking said, the correctional center and the police headquarters were attacked on Monday by gunmen who made use of explosives and also burnt many vehicles.
He said, the gunmen also set free 1,844 inmates during the attack as recorded by the Nigerian Correctional Service.
He said, “Their tactics is that they try to identify grievances of people in a particular area. If it is in Imo State and probably some IPOB people are not happy, they hire hoodlums from outside the state, they bring them in pretending to be IPOB and they commit these crimes and they go away.”
He also said, “So, it is not about IPOB. Yes, we agree, we have aggrieved IPOB members but I can tell you those who are doing this destruction, most of them were brought in from outside the IMO State.”
Uzodinma went further to say that, “What is important for Nigerians to know is the plot by a group of aggrieved politicians to destabilize the government of APC. “
According to him, he has done some thorough investigation and he reveals that he has some credible leads as to those who are sponsoring these activities of these hoodlums.
He said, he doesn’t want to pre-empt the investigations of other security agencies but insisted that they are working hard to ensure the sponsors of the acts are brought to book.
Meanwhile, the police have accused the Indigenous People of Biafra and its security outfit, Eastern Security Network of being responsible for the attack, an allegation the group denied.
