The youths of the Onicha-Ogbo Community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State have taken to the street to blocked the Onicha-Ogbo/Abuja road while protesting for the dividend of democracy.
The youths through their demonstrations on Thursday morning, February 5, 2021, created awareness through the protest and call on the federal and state governments to understand the pains residents suffered due to the bad nature of the road.
Speaking during the protest, Comr. Emmanuel Ekharto Zelinjo, the Youth spokesperson for Aniocha North LGA expressed concern to the DPO of Onicha-Ogbo Police Division who visited the scene stating that said “Oga thank God you are a federal government worker and we can send you our Message. We are not happy, at all. Oga DPO, our people, and suffering and smiling, and yet Delta State is an oil-producing state. What have we done bad that will make government forget Onicha-Ogbo.”

Comr. Ekhator also asked “Is Onicha-Ogbo not part of Nigeria? Is Onicha-Ogbo not part of Delta State? These are the pertinent questions we want answers to now. Our major challenges now this road. Our ancestors have been using this memorial. Umeko belongs to Onicha-Ogbo. Now, this road is so bad and it is a federal road.”
He lamented that the community has endured for so long but yet to no avail.
“We waited and waited, no answer. Very soon Oga DPO, I am aware that you are aware that the rainy season is fast approaching.”
“Now we have suffered so much, we have looked for every possible means to address this issue. We have some good people in government. We have expected them to say the truth or attract one or two to this direction, no way.”
He also revealed that “There is no government presence in Onicha-Ogbo except the Police station. That is why we are calling on the government to help us repair the road.
Ekhator added that the community has been doing self-help to ease the movement of vehicles utilizing that route.
