Two Catholic reverend sisters alongside their driver and couple have been burnt to ashes in an auto crash in Anambra.
The accident involves a Toyota Hiace bus and a Toyota Highlander along the Nawfix axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Tuesday night, April 12.
According to investigations, the two reverend sisters identified as Rev. Sr. Virginia Obike and Sr. Monica llem, are both Principal and Bursar at Handmaid’s Secondary School in Amanda, Akwa North LGA, and their driver, Mr. Chamberlain Umunakwe, was traveling to Amanda from Ifite-Ogwari, in Ayamelum LGA, where they went to purchase bags of rice for the school.
Other victims in a Toyota Highlander were identified as Mr. Emmanuel Okeke, former Anambra State Government Storekeeper, and his wife.
A brother to the deceased, Mr. Ifeanacho Okeke, who spoke at the accident scene said he spoke with his brother, Emmanuel around 5 pm yesterday, and around 9 pm his and the wife’s lines were off, leading to a search and the sad discovery early this morning.
Also, an eyewitness, Mr. Chinecherem Okonkwo from Nawfia, said he arrived at the accident scene yesterday night during light rainfall when the vehicles were still burning, but it was late for any meaningful help.
As of the time of filing this report, Reverend Fathers and Sisters were seen at the accident scene, while others helped in taking the vehicles off the single lane of the Expressway for free flow of traffic.
