Trump Raises Alarm on Mass Killings of Christians in Nigeria

President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, has expressed deep concern over the growing attacks on Christians in Nigeria, describing the situation as an “existential threat” to Christianity.

In a statement posted on his Truth Social account on Friday, President Trump announced that Nigeria has been officially designated as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to what he called the mass killing of Christians by radical Islamist groups.

According to the president, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”

He further emphasized the scale of the tragedy, noting that out of 4,476 Christians reportedly killed worldwide, 3,100 were from Nigeria.

“When Christians, or any such group, are slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria, something must be done!” Trump stated.

The U.S. president also revealed that he has instructed Congressman Riley Moore, along with House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, to immediately investigate the situation and report back to him.

“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries,” Trump wrote. “We stand ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”

Trump’s statement has drawn international attention to the ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, where religious and communal violence—particularly in parts of the Middle Belt and northern regions—has claimed thousands of lives.

While Nigerian authorities often attribute the violence to banditry and herder-farmer conflicts, several international organizations and Christian associations have repeatedly warned that religiously motivated attacks are increasing.

Trump’s declaration could potentially influence U.S.-Nigeria relations and increase pressure on the Nigerian government to take stronger actions to protect vulnerable communities and uphold religious freedom across the country.
