Abuja, Nigeria – A fuel-laden truck exploded on Karu Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday evening, causing a massive fire that left many people feared dead.
Eyewitnesses said the explosion happened after the truck, which was suspected to be carrying fuel or another highly flammable substance, crashed with another vehicle. The impact of the crash caused an enormous fire, spreading quickly and engulfing several cars.
In a video shared online by a witness named General Jhamuha, people could be heard screaming for help as flames surrounded the accident scene. Some good Samaritans tried to rescue victims, but the intense fire made it difficult to get close.
“People are dying, people are burning! Anyone close to Road Safety should call them. They should call the fire service,” Jhamuha pleaded in the video.
As the fire grew larger, many bystanders could only watch from a distance, unable to do anything due to the extreme heat and danger.
Emergency services, including firefighters and rescue teams, were called to the scene. However, the exact number of casualties has not yet been confirmed.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of transporting flammable substances on busy roads and the need for better road safety measures. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the accident and take necessary action to prevent such disasters in the future.
