The Kano State Hisbah Board has officially banned all forms of sports betting within the state, as part of a broader campaign to combat activities deemed immoral. This announcement was made by Dr. Mujaheed Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, during a recent press briefing where he outlined the board’s renewed efforts to maintain social order.
Dr. Mujaheed explained that the board has re-launched its “Operation Flush Out Immorality” initiative, which will lead to a crackdown on individuals and groups involved in activities that violate the state’s moral laws. Hisbah operatives are expected to soon begin enforcement across the state.
In addition to the ban on sports betting, the Hisbah Board has implemented new regulations targeting landlords who rent apartments to unknown individuals. These actions come in response to concerns that some properties are being used for inappropriate activities, such as functioning as lodges or motels.
The board also introduced stricter rules for couples in courtship. According to Dr. Mujaheed, prospective couples will no longer be allowed to sit in tinted vehicles, particularly at night, to prevent misconduct. The law against street begging will also be more strictly enforced, with female beggars who are found outside late at night facing arrest.
Moreover, Dr. Mujaheed expressed concern over the growing issue of prostitution among young girls, leading to a new rule where any woman found riding in a tricycle after 10 pm will be arrested.
He concluded the briefing by urging parents to closely monitor their children, especially daughters, to ensure they do not engage in any inappropriate behavior. Violators of these new rules, he warned, will face stiff penalties.
