President Bola Tinubu has appointed the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.
This was made known in a statement on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu Appoints Bishop Kukah as Pro-Chancellor of Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia’, announced the new appointments for the university’s leadership.
President Tinubu recently directed the Federal Government to take over Nok University, Kachia, a private institution, and convert it into a federal university. With this decision, the university was renamed the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia.
Apart from Bishop Kukah, Tinubu also appointed the following key officials:
- Prof. Qurix Barnabas – Vice Chancellor
- Sanusi Adamu – Registrar
- Ibrahim Dalhat – Bursar
- Prof. Daniel Abubakar – University Librarian
Additionally, the President appointed four members to the university’s Governing Council:
- Mr. Thomas Etuh (North Central)
- Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East)
- Prof. Femi Taiwo (South West)
- Zarah Bukar (North East)
According to Onanuga, the President carefully selected the appointees based on their experience, leadership, and dedication to education.
Tinubu urged them to lead the university with a vision and ensure it becomes a centre for academic excellence and research. He also emphasized that their work should align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The university is expected to welcome its *first group of students in September 2025.
