President Bola Tinubu spoke to people in Abuja during a big meeting of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said some politicians who are leaving their own parties to join the APC are doing so because their old parties are like a sinking ship — meaning they are failing or having big problems.
President Tinubu explained that the APC is the party helping Nigeria move forward and achieve its goals. He said it’s okay for politicians to change parties because in Nigeria, people are free to choose who they want to work with.
He said, “You don’t blame people bailing out of a sinking ship when they have no life jacket.” This means if a person is in trouble, it’s normal to try to find a safer place.
Recently, some important politicians, like Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, and many others, left their party called the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC.
The president welcomed these new members and said the APC is ready to work with them to make Nigeria better.
