Tinubu Appoints New Service Chiefs to Strengthen National Security

Abuja, October 24, 2025 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced major changes in Nigeria’s military leadership as part of efforts to boost the country’s security system.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President named General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

Other new appointments include:

Major-General W. Shaibu – Chief of Army Staff

Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke – Chief of Air Staff

Rear Admiral I. Abbas – Chief of Naval Staff

Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye – Chief of Defence Intelligence (retains his position)

President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff and other service chiefs for their patriotic service, dedication, and leadership during their tenure.

He urged the newly appointed officers to live up to expectations by demonstrating professionalism, discipline, and teamwork, and to continue improving Nigeria’s security across all regions.

According to the statement, all the new appointments take immediate effect.

The change in military leadership comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen national security, tackle terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities, and restore peace across the country.

This latest move by President Tinubu is seen as part of a broader strategy to ensure a more coordinated and responsive security system under his administration.
